Cardiovascular prevention is a team effort in primary care
Alongside GP-focused sessions, the event includes The Role of Pharmacists in CVD Management at 14:55 in the Pharmacy Theatre, where the session description says it will explore the role of the pharmacy team in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease in primary care, as well as a Cardiovascular Health Session in the Nursing Theatre at 15:00 on 20 May.
That multidisciplinary approach fits closely with NHS policy. NHS England’s cardiovascular programme continues to emphasise earlier identification and treatment of atrial fibrillation, blood pressure problems and raised cholesterol, while wider NHS prevention guidance links this work directly to primary care delivery (NHS England, 2026). NICE guidance also supports this practical, team-based approach through its recommendations on risk assessment, lipid management and statin treatment (NICE, 2023).
For attendees, that makes the cardiovascular strand of the event especially relevant. It is not limited to one profession or one narrow clinical issue. Instead, it reflects how cardiovascular prevention is actually delivered across UK general practice, pharmacy and nursing teams (NHS England, 2026).
