Greener Practice announced as new delivery partner for Green Impact for Health Toolkit

Greener Practice CIC Stand: 153
Starting this spring, Greener Practice, the not-for-profit community interest company enabling sustainable healthcare, will run the Green Impact for Health Toolkit (GIFHT), for the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP).

The toolkit is an essential resource for GPs to boost their environmental sustainability while improving patient care. Created by RCGP sustainability lead and former president Dr Terry Kemple, using the toolkit can also reduce practice expenses, motivate staff, shrink carbon footprints and enable primary care to adapt to climate change. Funded by the RCGP, the toolkit complements the wealth of quality improvement projects, resources and peer support available from Greener Practice.

Dr Katrina Davies, GP and Director of Greener Practice, said, ‘We are honoured to be taking over delivery of the Green Impact for Health Toolkit, continuing the fantastic work of Dr Terry Kemple, who developed the toolkit over the past ten years. Terry has been a true pioneer in raising awareness of the practical steps towards sustainable general practice and will continue to advise on the toolkit. Sustainable healthcare is about better care and better patient health. It’s not something extra, it’s an approach that saves time and money, improves staff morale and can help with staff retention.’

Dr Kemple said, ‘I am delighted that Greener Practice is carrying on this vital work, ensuring GPs everywhere have the tools they need to become more sustainable and resilient. Climate change is a health emergency, presenting many challenges for the future of general practice. Together with the excellent support and resources available from Greener Practice, the toolkit enables GPs to meet these challenges. To date, 2,000 practices are using the toolkit, with 55,000 positive actions taken, reaching 15,000,000 patients. I look forward to the toolkit going from strength to strength in the care of Greener Practice.’

Greener Practice will be at the Primary Care Show for the first time this year. Members will be available to answer your questions and offer advice at stand 153. And join Dr Davies and Dr Honey Smith  to hear them talk about ‘Save Time, Save Money, Re-Energise your Team: Greener Practice in Action’, at 10.50am on Thursday 21 May in the Practice & Business Management Theatre.
