Psoriasis Association
)
psoriatic arthritis for over half a century. As a national charity, founded in 1968 in the heart of Northampton by Dr. Dick Coles, a Consultant Dermatologist at Northampton General Hospital, we offer information, advice and support to all those affected by the condition as well as funding research into the causes and care of psoriasis.
Psoriasis is an immune-mediated inflammatory disease (IMID) meaning the immune system is not functioning correctly. It can cause dry, itchy skin and plaques (raised patches) or affect the joints in psoriatic arthritis (PsA).
As an organisation, we are driven by three main objectives: supporting people with psoriasis, raising awareness of psoriasis and researching psoriasis and these founding principles are as relevant today as they were more than 50 years ago.
We offer practical information, treatment advice and a friendly ear via our free, confidential helpline service throughout the week and work hard to foster a sense of community for those affected by the condition. Members can share experiences, access resources, and have a collective voice via our active social media platforms.
Each year, our annual awareness week incorporates World Psoriasis Day (29th October) and offers a mix of advice, tips and new resources as well as raising public, professional, and parliamentary awareness of psoriasis and its impact.
We have awarded millions of pounds in research grants and PhD Studentships thanks to the fundraising efforts of individual members, branches, legacies and private donations.
