BioGaia Highlights Evidence-Based Gut Health at The Primary Care Show 2025

BioGaia UK Limited Stand: 43

BioGaia Brings Science-Led Innovation to Primary Care

BioGaia, a world leader in probiotic research, is returning to The Primary Care Show 2025 (Stand 43) to showcase its evidence-based probiotic solutions for patients of all ages — from birth to adulthood. Healthcare professionals attending the show are invited to discover the latest science behind BioGaia’s products, including findings from recent clinical studies.

Paediatric Focus: Supporting Gut Health in Infants

Among BioGaia’s most recognised products is Protectis Baby Drops, a daily probiotic food supplement containing the patented strain Limosilactobacillus reuteri DSM 17938. This strain has been extensively studied, with over 150 clinical trials supporting its safety and efficacy.

One such study, conducted by Weizman et al., found that supplementation with L. reuteri DSM 17938 significantly improved gut microbiota composition in healthy infants. Clinical Trial: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/18799805

Another randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial demonstrated the strain's ability to positively influence the gastrointestinal environment during early life, supporting microbial balance. Clinical Trial: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/17419882

Colic has been a challenging concern for many families, and while we cannot make direct claims, research has investigated the potential role of probiotics in infant comfort. A well-known study published in Pediatrics by Savino et al. found that L. reuteri DSM 17938 significantly reduced daily crying time in breastfed infants. Clinical Trial: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/17200279

Adult Health: Gut & Immune Support

BioGaia’s research extends into adult health, with studies indicating that L. reuteri strains may support both digestive and immune functions. For instance, daily supplementation with L. reuteri has been associated with reduced short-term sick leave due to respiratory or gastrointestinal infections in working adults. Clinical Trial: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1298318

Additionally, while more research is needed in adult populations, findings from pediatric studies suggest potential benefits in managing functional gastrointestinal disorders. Clinical Trial: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/27156182

BioGaia’s Primary Care Commitment

All BioGaia probiotics are supported by peer-reviewed, published studies and are developed with a strong focus on safety and efficacy. For general practitioners, pharmacists, midwives and nurses, BioGaia offers accessible solutions that support digestive health from birth through to adulthood.
