Upper Limb Examination for the Busy GP
Upper Limb Nerve Examination: A Practical Masterclass for Primary Care: The patient in front of you has a tingling hand. Is it carpal tunnel? Cubital tunnel? Radial tunnel? Pronator syndrome? Or is the problem coming from the neck? In this interactive session, you will work through a systematic upper limb nerve examination from the cervical spine to the fingertips. You'll learn the key provocative tests for each compression site, understand what differentiates one diagnosis from another, and practise the examination sequence on each other. Learning Outcomes By the end of this session, delegates will be able to: Perform a structured nerve examination of the upper limb in under five minutes Identify the clinical features that distinguish carpal tunnel, cubital tunnel, radial tunnel, and pronator syndrome Recognise when symptoms originate proximal to the wrist — including thoracic outlet and cervical spine pathology Triage upper limb nerve complaints with greater confidence, improving the quality and specificity of onward referrals
