Implementing Lifestyle Medicine in Primary Care
Chronic noncommunicable diseases continue to place an unsustainable burden on health systems worldwide, yet the majority are driven by modifiable lifestyle factors. This session explores how lifestyle medicine can be effectively integrated into primary health care as a scalable, evidence-based solution to address the root causes of disease. Drawing on global data, clinical experience, and emerging models of care, this presentation will outline practical approaches to embedding lifestyle medicine into everyday clinical practice. Attendees will gain insights into team-based delivery models, patient engagement strategies, and system-level enablers that support sustainable implementation. The session will also highlight the growing alignment between lifestyle medicine and global health priorities, positioning primary care as the central platform for delivering high-value, prevention-focused care that improves outcomes while reducing long-term costs.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to: Describe the role of lifestyle medicine as a foundational component of primary health care for the prevention, management, and potential reversal of chronic disease. Identify practical, evidence-based models for integrating lifestyle medicine into primary care workflows, including team-based care, group visits, and behaviour change strategies. Apply key implementation strategies to overcome common barriers—such as time constraints, reimbursement challenges, and training gaps—within diverse health care systems.
