Managing Food Protein-Induced Enterocolitis Syndrome (FPIES)

21 May 2026
Nutrition and Dietetics
This practical session will provide a primary care-focused overview of food protein-induced enterocolitis syndrome (FPIES), an under-recognised form of delayed food allergy that can be severe. It will cover how to recognise typical presentations, make a clinical diagnosis, and initiate safe early management. The talk will highlight common pitfalls, when to suspect FPIES rather than gastroenteritis or sepsis, whether allergy tests are helpful, and how to support families with avoidance advice, action plans, and onward referral where appropriate. It will also briefly review the differential diagnosis and other non-IgE-mediated food allergy presentations relevant to primary care.
