Lifestyle Medicine is a growing area of health care practice that is rooted in evidence and behaviour change techniques to address the rising rates of non-communicable disease globally and the impact this has on population health.  It is set against six pillars of health which include mental wellbeing, social connection, health eating, physical activity, sleep and minimal exposure to harmful substances and behaviours.  Nurses already possess many of the skills and knowledge to deliver Lifestyle Medicine in practice, and there is growing representation from the nursing workforce within the British Society of Lifestyle Medicine (BSLM).   This talk will give an overview of Lifestyle Medicine and introduce the conceptualisation, history and current broader health care landscape. Practical examples and case studies will be discussed as well as the skills for delivering Lifestyle Medicine in practice.  The overarching aim of the presentation will be to develop understanding of Lifestyle Medicine and inspire confidence in the value of approaching lifestyle change with patients to address growing health care challenges in practice.

In the UK, caesareans represent a substantial portion of all births, with associated surgical site infections (SSIs) posing a challenge for new mothers and healthcare systems alike. Discrepancies in clinical assessments and care management contribute to these challenges. In recent decades, the caesarean rate has risen, whilst postnatal care provision has fallen. We will examine the incidence of these complications, delve into risk factors, and address the current state of post-surgical care. Our discussion will also consider strategies aimed at improving the detection and management of caesarean wound complications, ultimately aiming to better outcomes for new mothers.  Learning Outcomes: 1. The significance and frequency of caesarean complications following hospital discharge. 2. Risk factors for caesarean wound complications. 3. Current post-surgical care provision for caesarean patients, including gaps in caesarean wound management. 4. Current and potential strategies to improve the detection and management of caesarean wound complications.

This presentation aims to illuminate the myriad of forces the foot endures, emphasizing early detection's pivotal role in mitigating risk factors for ulceration and, in the direst cases, amputation. We'll spotlight vulnerable foot regions susceptible to trauma from abnormal or excessive forces, exploring strategies to address these factors and offering insights into recognizing potential risks. From footwear cues to insole observations and foot examinations, we'll equip you with tools to identify warning signs. Ultimately, we'll underscore how proactive healthcare practices can catalyze recognition and prevention long before podiatric intervention becomes necessary.
